Five winces and cries out each time he's hit. Each mark left on his skin feels like fire. It feels like it goes on for ages even though it's over relatively quickly. This entire ordeal feels like it's been an eternity. How long have they been in here? How long has this been going on? Fifteen minutes? Four hours? A week? They all sound like both right and wrong answers. Each is as plausible as the rest.
He's still trying to figure out the time frame when he notices he's being lowered to the ground (he missed the demon mentioning something that roughly translated to this whole fucking thing is over) and he lifts his head to look at his brother just before he's dropped the rest of the way to the floor. The slack in the chains and the impact of Five hitting the floor jostles the hooks and pulls downward. One last fuck you from the demons, hm? Drop him to the floor and let the hooks hurt him one last time before they're removed.
Five falls to his hands and knees. His legs feel too weak to support him and the chains are helping to drag him down. So what now, though? They door is still closed and Five can't go anywhere even if he had the strength to do it right now. It's only once Klaus is behind him that it clicks. Suddenly the next step becomes clear and he realizes what the demon said that he missed. He looks over his shoulder at Klaus. No, this is the final fuck you from the demons. A little extra torture for both of the brothers. A little more bang for their buck.
"No, Klaus. I can-" But he can't. He can't do anything. Five can't remove the hooks on his own. Even if he weren't injured and sore to the point where the very act of breathing feels like a chore and could reach around to grab them, he couldn't pull the hooks out in any effective way. Ripping them out would be the only way he could do it. No, it has to be Klaus. Again. God, he's so sorry.
When the hooks start to come out, Five allows himself something that he refused to do this entire time. He didn't want to give the demons the satisfaction (though maybe the entire thing would have been over soon if he had...). He practically screams with pain as each hook comes out. It's not even necessarily more painful than anything else he's gone through (or is it? He's not sure anymore) but it feels good to just let it all out. Relatively speaking, of course. His stomach twists from the wet, sloppy sounds that he can barely hear through his own screams.
But then it's over. The hooks are all out and his cries of pain end with a choked sob. He watches as the door swings open but a part of him still wonders if this is really over. Will they get to the door just to have it slam shut before they step through? He shakes his head. It's not the time for pessimism. He has to believe this is the end, that they're actually free now.
Five twists around as best he can, barely facing his brother before the effort gets to be too much and he has to stop. He reaches out to wrap his fingers around Klaus' arm. This can't work. It won't work. He's too tired, too weak, in too much pain. Even still, there's a barely visible blue glow as Five tries to blink them out of there. With the door open, with them allowed to leave, he can feel his power again, but he's not strong enough to reach it. He had to try anyway though, because he wants out of here now.
"Fuck..." Clearly and disappointingly unsuccessful, Five lets his hand slip from Klaus' arm, down to the floor and just stares at it. "Klaus, I need you to help me up."
