He had only meant to be honest, answer directly. Bucky doesn't know Annie, only knows most people wouldn't be so ready, so eager, to thrust their hand into acid for a total stranger.

When she stops looking at the contraption he's hooked on, Bucky's mind immediately feels alert. When Annie walks back to the bowl, Bucky shakes his head. He only has the words, "Don't do-!" before her hand is elbow deep, and she screams.

By then, all he can do is give her the respect of watching, jaw clenched.

"You need to get that healed," are the first words out his mouth when the key hits the ground. "The demon by the door." Because if she doesn't, the acid will keep eating away. Of course, his timer is still counting down.
