It's just hard for Five to accept that there's simply nothing he can do. It's a difficult concept for him to wrap his head around. He's been self-sufficient for so long. There was nothing he couldn't find a way to do, because there was simply no choice. So he had to give it one last try. There had to be a final attempt before he could accept the truth.

Slow going as it is, Five manages to walk along with Klaus without too much added pain. Well, walk may not be the right word for it. It's more of an awkward shuffle, as Five tries to keep his weight off of his injured leg. His marked leg. 'Injured' just seems like too mundane a word, though were he to actually talk about it, it's the word he'd use. It's a word that makes it sound less intentional. It's a word that points less fingers.

When Klaus says stop, Five actually stops. He stops walking and looks at his brother with his brows furrowed, shaking his head the entirely time Klaus speaks. Because no. No no no. Yes, they did it on purpose. Yes, they want to see them suffer. But Five is supposed to be better than them. He's supposed to be smarter than them. He's supposed to be able to figure these things out. "No. No, I'm supposed to look out for you. I'm supposed to be able to protect you."
