Jon looks to her, and it's rhetorical, but still he nods in agreement. Elijah is not like the wights that he knows. He wouldn't call Elijah dead in the way he does the army of the dead.

They only want to destroy the living (not out of hunger, not out of survival), but that is their purpose. Destruction of those that breathe and live, those that are human.

He walks forward beside her, hesitating at what she says though it's easier to speak with her than it would be with anyone else. Now that he has an idea of what may come (the destruction and deaths at king's landing), it's harder to admit that he left.

"Only dragonglass could be used to fight the army of the dead." Fire works against wights, but not against White Walkers. Valyrian steel was so rare as to not arm an army with. "There was dragonglass at Dragonstone, and the... woman who wished to conquer Westeros had control of it. She'd asked me to come to bend the knee."
