Jon remains quiet as she explains. He listens fully, even if there is so much in the explanation he doesn't understand. Magic works far differently in his world. His experience with it is limited, revolving around sacrifices by fire (it's also the reason he is alive at all). Corruption seems to be the cost in this case when it comes to 'dark' magic, and he's not sure what that means either. What makes it dark if it's able to restore memories, help save someone's life?

He does understand doing anything to protect one's family, despite it not always being for the greater good (he rushed for Rickon, despite the action putting his entire army in more danger). He doesn't blame Josie for trusting her teacher like he didn't blame Olly for following Thorne in the end. Adults are there to lead, and they can lead someone far younger astray (even when they know their actions are wrong). She was manipulated into believing something that was not true, and she acted based on what she believed.

"I would have saved my sister too," Jon says in the silence that follows. He thinks it is brave for Josie to tell him about what she means, to outline her own actions and consequences. "When it breaks, it goes back to you? To... corrupt you?"
