He doesn't feel like he really needs to point out that stupidity tends to be the first step of indoctrination in most situations, that blind loyalty and dedication was what led almost anyone into anything. Brainwashing wasn't always a noticeable thing, was it? Sometimes you lived with it for many years before you knew it.
