Henry doesn't bother hiding his look of hopeful surprise when Gabe doesn't just immediately walk out the door. Little blessings when speaking face-to-face with the guy, though considering how rare it is, he isn't sure he'd exactly call them blessings.
The sentiment is relatable, however. They're in the same damned boat with sins on their list that would keep them in actual hell with no real chances for redemption. At least, from their points of view, anyway. Henry never exactly believe in a true redemption, anyway.
"Well, you can keep doing this thing you're doing right now." He gestures vaguely at him, thinking he could at least see that much. "Let it eat at you, torture yourself. That's what hell does, yeah? Take anything, even things that feel good, and twist it into something worth agonizing over. Could come back full circle, for all we know."
He smiles weakly, the quality of his voice to match. He's not completely sure what he's trying to accomplish here. It almost feels like he's trying to convince Gabe to feel like shit, but it didn't seem appropriate either to offer something bright-eyed and hopeful, like this was some kind of magical moment to turn things around.
"Or... I don't know, just pretend it never happened." His voice goes soft. "Things might look different when you go to sleep and wake up again."
