[ Carol's screams turn to sobs as Daryl continues cutting, as the pain goes on and on. But he doesn't stop, and she holds on to that. Every second he keeps going is a second closer to this being over.
The adrenaline that had fueled her dancing seeps out of her as he wraps up the first foot, and while she's vaguely aware that he's saying something, between the pain and the sudden exahustion it's all she can do to stay conscious. It's not until he finishes, until he says it worked, that his words make it through the fog of pain clouding her mind and she raises her head to look.
Immediately, she wishes she hadn't. Daryl's makeshift bandages are already soaked through, dark with blood, and what she can make out of her feet underneath is misshapen and horrifying. The remains of her boots lie in pieces on the ground, her own skin melted onto the leather, and the blood is everywhere. But he's right. She's not moving. ]
It worked.
