"Comforting," Caleb said with a grunt, as if it were, which it definitely wasn't. Also, in his experience, that wasn't the fact of it at all. But he didn't bring that up because it invited a lot of questions he wasn't sure he wanted to have asked.
Caleb winced, slightly, as they walked. And because he didn't like the idea of going back into one of those rooms to do something else, particularly if it involved secrets and explanations and all those sorts of things.
As they drew closer to the houses, Caleb found himself looking around curiously. He hadn't been out to this side of the compound and the architecture was as unfamiliar as the hotel itself, everything curiously formulaic and repetitive. He followed close so he didn't get lost and confused.
"I imagine I have quite a few," Caleb said thoughtfully, "but I have gotten very used and good to having them in the first place. Perhaps I will just avoid that room and stick to wearing my sins, if it comes up."
