"Oh, scheisse," Caleb said, and laughed a little bit, mostly self-deprecating as he considered how to approach it. It was different than explaining magic, in a general sense, to Wylan.

He understood, conceptually and theoretically, how other magic users accessed the arcane and the divine energies of the world because he had read about it, because he needed to understand that. But that was different than explaining it to someone else.

So, he tried to think of how to explain what Jesper and Caduceus could do, not in the theoretical way, but in the very real ways that he had seen.

"All magics can be accessed in a variety of way. My own is through...sheer stubbornness and study and being a boring bookworm. Clerics, Paladins, and Warlocks have oaths and allegiances, generally to an entity--a god, a being of enormous power, some such. Druids channel the energies directly from the earth, nature, that sort of thing. Bards are...bards, I don't..."

Caleb shook his head a little and shrugged. He didn't really understand how bards worked, and he hadn't had much opportunity to work with or around them.

"So, a cleric. They channel the energy of existence through, let's say...a being of the Feywild, for instance. And through the...intervention? Presence? Regular commune, they can heal, fight, everything else."
