1. Stand Your Ground There's a litany of things to worry about that Inej has next to no context on, and she's fairly certain she doesn't want it. Kaz, at least, has given her some armor for this place, some truths as he's experienced them. Whatever happens will happen, no matter how she might want to push against a system set against them. Hearing there's a history for this carnival means, hopefully, that people will be considerate and mindful.
Inej has known the truth of humanity for far too long, but she doesn't let that cynicism cloud her.
Instead, she makes herself helpful. The starts of the carnival are more the Staves, the Barrel than the circus she grew up in. So, as much as she can, she avoids that. Instead, she doesn't mind seeing how she can help with the lemonade stand, and a bit of cleaning inside the hotel as well.
If a couple knives disappear from boxes? No they didn't.
2. Follow Me Down, II The bar in the hotel is nothing like the Crow Club--the one in Ketterdam or the eponymous namesake in Darrow. Still, there's a comfort in familiarity, in the bustle of people seeking to soothe an ache, and Inej lets herself feel that comfort.
She doesn't trust it, mind. Why would she? Anything too good to be true certainly is. But it seems she's stuck here, like the rest of them, and that's a learning curve she needs to quickly get on top of.
With a small glass of scotch and her back to the wall, Inej watches the ebb and flow of the crowd. She makes no move to hide herself, as she most certainly could. Instead, it's all about being unobtrusive, present but forgettable, as she learns a little bit more about this place.
