[The hard part about being in the middle of an asthma attack is that it's difficult to convince people that you aren't in the middle of one. He's wired in a way he doesn't at all understand, and the solution is probably just to sit down and rest until his body figures out how to keep up again. But then more people would notice, and that's not a step he's willing to take at the moment. So he tries to hold it in, stifling a cough and forcing a thin smile.
