He sighed and dropped down to kneel next to Natasha as she worked, dropping his head into one hand, "Do you really want the answer to that Natasha? Do you even have to ask?"

Of course he had. If he was a normal human, he'd still have the scars, but he wasn't. That was another reason to be the one getting cut. No one would have to look at him and see the faint tracery of letters. Only Steve would remember where the marks had been, and what they'd said. It was better that way.
