[ James wasn't really sure whether Steve was an idiot or if he just hadn't explained himself clearly enough, but on principle he leaned towards the former. It was hard not to just yell at Steve or roll his eyes at him, but an argument probably wasn't the best way to begin a relationship.

But I don't want you getting snappy at Jim again when you come over and he's just there, hanging out with me or doing whatever. He's going to be there when you show up sometimes. I just want to make sure you're not expecting me to stop seeing him or spending time with him. Or having sex with him.
