He opened his mouth and then shut it. Just because the last time had worked one way didn't mean it always would. Staring at Natasha, seeing the world-weary look in her eyes, the way her lips tightened as she spoke. She didn't want to do it. At all. She'd really rather wait. Steve sighed and moved to sit down, leaning back against the wall, and kicked the knife he'd dropped across the room.
"Ok. I don't know everything, and there's no absolutes in this place. If you wanna wait, we'll wait." He gave his friend a hopeful smile, "I hope you're right Natasha. I hope really hard I'm wrong and we can walk out that door unharmed." Steve leaned his head back and held out his hand, the smile still on his lips turning just a touch amused, "Can I still hold your hand while we wait? Please?" It would make it a lot easier to tell if she was flinching if he had a physical connection, plus he really liked touching her.
