In Frank's experience, noise in the distance--particularly horrific ones--were best ignored. It wasn't that he was an uncaring person, but the noise of brutal humanity tended to become white in the middle of a desert or a city street.
That being said and what it was, he still felt compelled to go with Spike. Not for any particular reason other than they were both down here now--and if it was a person, instead of some nefarious creature, then they ought to do something about that.
He let Spike get a little ahead of him, keeping the beam of the flashlight ever in his periphery or line of sight, because Frank was instead more interested in the various crates and boxes that were littered through the basement. Most of them were already open.
