Steve wasn't sure what he qualified as. Technically he was the best a human could genetically become, but he didn't really register as "normal human" and hand't for a good long time. Humans couldn't outrun cars or lift steel girders or survive so many wounds he literally lost count. He was something else, something other, and apparently so was Peter. Steve just didn't know what kind of other the man was. Yet.
