Frank had his gun out just before Spike kicked the door open. It was a mostly unnecessary move, in Frank's experience, dramatic and tending to draw too much attention to the entrance and the person making it. So Frank backed him up at least. Back to the door for a moment, in case their little hallway was suddenly flooded with attention, and then facing into the room as well, just behind him.
It stank of terror and captivity, and very little humanity. Frank took a huge breath, the quickest way he could adapt to the smell of it all. There was such noise at their entrance, a clamor for their attention. Frank stayed by the door, gun drawn, mistrustful.
