A part of it might have something to do with John being unrepentant (mostly). He's had to make a lot of difficult decisions that no one really ought to have to make. If there can be such a thing as being desensitised to making sacrifices in order to try and beat a rigged game, Constantine is it.

"You're going to kiss me better?" John taunts. He stops and turns, then, facing Andrej, a challenging but playful look in his eyes. Maybe he wants to get a rise out of him. Maybe he's just doing this to get a laugh at Andrej's expense.
