unpragmatic: (clouded future)

Anakin isn't sure what he feels from Luke, what the expression on the other's face means. He misinterprets it slightly to be related to the time difference. The young man in front of him must be around his own age, so that's...so long in the future that Anakin can't really imagine it.

"They ended when you were born?" he repeats, shocked to hear it so plainly put. He has so many questions. He wants to know everything. He's so close to winning this war. Confirmation would be vindicating. He wants to know that he's right, that he's done all he said he would.

"Really? How? Did the Republic win? Did we..."

But he can almost hear Obi-Wan telling him not to get too arrogant. Too much pride is dangerous. He knows that, despite blatantly ignoring it constantly.

"Wait. No. I shouldn't ask you that. I shouldn't ask you to tell me too much of the future, as tempting as that is."

Anakin isn't good at resisting temptation. Another time, another place, more pressing on him, and he may break down and ask Luke to tell him. This need to know is already in him, and it seems everyone he's met is from the future. He can't avoid it forever.

"But there's another war," he says, circling back. "Something else you've fought. I'm disappointed to know that. I supppose there's no such thing as an end to war forever, but still."
