[ Jesse gets a hold of himself, just barely, his wails quieting to occasional sobs and then sniffling. His face is red and the veins are popping out in his neck, but he's trying to hold it all together again. She doesn't need to share his pain. He tries to even out his spastic breaths enough to listen to her and he finally trusts himself to look at her again. He's dizzied by it all--the tears, the sudden realization that Jane is here, the crushing guilt that she's in Hell with him.
Jesse shakes his head again, clearing his throat before he speaks. Having something to focus on telling her helps him regain control of himself. It distracts him, even as his chest aches indescribably. ]
I...don't really know what happened. Sometimes people go to sleep here ND they wake up with, like, new memories. Like they went back home in their sleep.
I first got here like six months ago. The last thing I remembered was...y'know when I had to put off us going to Santa Fe? When I told you something came up? It was, uh. It was for work. Mr. White. He told me some chemical we were using was going bad. So we went out in the desert for a few days straight 'til we ran out of fuel for the genny. But we got stranded out there. The RV battery died and we had no cell-service. Then I woke up in Hell. I kinda just assumed I, like, dehydrated or starved or somethin'.
But then a few nights ago when I went to sleep it was like, I was back home and I didn't wake up again until...til after you were gone. So I don't really know how or when. I just know I'm here now.
[ Jesse lets out a breath. It's all pretty confusing, even for someone like him who's already been here for six months. He can only imagine how disconcerting it is for Jane. While this is the last place he ever wanted to see her, this is also kind of the best thing that's happened to him since his arrival. Still, it's bittersweet, and whatever happiness he feels is tinged with guilt. ]
Um. You wanna, like, come inside? I probably got some shorts or sweats you could wear. You gotta be freezing.
[ Jesse pulls a key from his pocket and moves to the door she'd been sitting down next to so he can unlock it. ]
