TEST DRIVE MEME #13
Arrival
You remember a dream.
Or maybe nightmare is more accurate.
It was full of hellfire nipping at your skin and a sensation of being pulled down no matter how much you struggle or cry for help. There's a voice that feels like it's coming from all around you at once. Contrasting with the nightmare unfolding around you, it's smooth as silk. It makes you want to listen with every bit of attention you can muster in the moment.
"Judgement has come upon you, but not to worry. It can still be undone."
The voice promises you redemption for your sins. It promises you a better life and everything you could ever want, if only you just stop struggling so much.
And so you do.
Everyone wakes up in the same room initially. The room is done up in red with a cushy bed, a window, an old TV in the corner on a desk, and a few Hieronymus Bosch paintings lining the wall. There's a bathroom to clean up in and any belongings will be sat around the room to be gathered later. There's a duffel bag provided for your convenience.
After feeling a sensation of falling or dropping onto the bed, characters wake up feeling like they've just slept for a week. Their body will feel heavy and stiff, they'll have a massive headache at first.
They'll quickly notice the list of their sins written with their blood on a bedside table on an old piece of parchment. This will mean the list is tied to them and can't be changed or tampered with. They'll also receive their device to connect with others and the network. It won't be anything terribly fancy. As a matter of fact, it looks like a very old Blackberry type phone.
Once characters are ready to leave the room, they'll head down long, winding halls. They're dimly lit and ominous feeling. They may encounter fellow sinners or demonic staff that will direct the newcomer down to the lobby to get their actual room key to settle in. They may be pushy, they may border on courteous. It really just depends on the mood of the staff at the time and how they're treated in return. Eventually, everyone comes to stairs that lead downward.
Once down to the lobby, you'll notice the front desk manned by a demon who looks bored out of its mind. To the side of him is the door to the kitchen where guests may help themselves. To the right is a small duty free shop that seems to have a surprisingly normal, expected stock of items. Look around a bit further, there will be a tiny bar tucked in through a corner door. It seems pretty well-stocked and best of all, there's a demonic bartender who seems to know how to mix any drink you can imagine (and a few you can't). Of course there's some seating, bar games, and a jukebox tucked in the corner if you'd rather stay and socialize a bit. There's also a new addition of a karaoke machine.
Please note that all the songs on the jukebox are appropriately hell-themed. Hopefully Sympathy for the Devil is universally loved.
Welcome to My Nightmare Familiar whispers are starting among the demons of Hell yet again! The big carnival is happening soon and it's going to be even bigger than before. Apparently the clowns are out, but special guests are in!
The names Bellas Mammon, and Verinne float around excitedly. Something about the angel is spat about with less enthusiasm from time to time. If the demons are pressed for additional information they'll just say that if the carnival guests are pleased, Hell is in for a grand expansion.
If asked how the carnival guests are to be pleased the demons will simply laugh and tell sinners not to worry. So, new denizen of Hell, guess what! Even with such little information to go on, you get to help the demons get everything ready for the upcoming event. Exciting!
Prompt I: We Built This City WARNINGS: mentions of violence and drugs
Within the gates of our lovely Penance community a large portion of the area is currently in the process of being cleared away. Demons will be grabbing unsuspecting sinners and dragging them into the process without a care of whether they want to help or not. Sinners will work clearing charred debris, constructing stands, cleaning up dilapidated buildings, stringing lights and other decorations, and more.
Curiously, the only things that seem to be off-limits are rides and games, just like the last time. Hands off, buddy. Those are a surprise.
Unfortunately for all the guests involved, it seems like the demons are very serious about their role as supervisor. Cracking the whip isn't just a figure of speech is what we’re saying. If they catch anyone slacking off they will be punished accordingly. A swift hit, a hard shove, a good lashing with the whip for those who are particularly naughty. They may even just crack it if they think a sinner isn't working as fast or as hard as they could.
Well, now you know how serious they're taking this. After all, there's so much work to be done and such little time.
That said, the demons aren't entirely heartless. Just before a sinner collapses from exhaustion or dehydration, they'll be allowed to go treat themselves to some sandwiches and water. There's also an energy drink available simply called Speed Bull.
Knowing Hell, the 'healthy vitamins and minerals' contained in it are probably just code for actual speed. Ah, well, at least it keeps you going. Might want to be careful though. Drinking too many will lead you to, well, die (again). Might not be permanent, but isn’t fun or productive!
Those sinners who are especially resistant or otherwise naughty while constructing booths and other carnival necessities will find themselves put on porta potty duty. Arguably the worst duty of all, and they just might find themselves compelled to do so even if they hate it.
Other areas the guests will be able to help with include the tunnel of love, pens for a petting zoo, and the fun house, but they may not want to gaze into the mirrors too long...
Prompt II: The Maze of Mirrors WARNINGS: mentions of mental health, addiction, violence, and sex
Those lucky enough to get a glimpse at the carnival’s fun house will notice an incomplete room full of mirrors. There’s no demons around cracking whips at the moment and there’s something about it that just feels like it’s calling to you. It’s clearly unfinished and they likely need some help, right? Might as well investigate.
If guests choose to enter this room, they will soon discover it's far larger than it seemed at first glance. Stranger yet, the room is a maze that seems to shift and change with every corner you turn. Didn’t you just enter from that direction? Well, looks like it’s a dead end now. Guess you’ll have to find another way out.
The longer someone stays trapped in this maze of mirrors the more they start to feel different. Sinners begin to change mentally and emotionally into their darkest nature. All the secret parts of themselves that they try to hide from everyone come rushing to the surface and this can also be actual secrets themselves!
Do you struggle with anger? Depression? Been holding yourself together by a thread for too long? Actually afraid of everything? Recovered addict? Jealous of that bitch Stacey? Itching to just murder someone? Maybe you’re a bit of a nymphomaniac or a compulsive liar. Perhaps you’ve been holding back on saying what’s really on your mind to some people or maybe you have a deep secret that’s itching to get out and you don’t care who hears it... like that one time you left someone to die, or when cheated on your significant other with their sibling.
Well good sinner, now feels like a great time to clear the air! Let people know who you really are. There might be someone else stuck in there with you who you can kill, or fuck, or yell all the things you’ve wanted to say to them (or just say in general) but haven’t. If not? Good thing there’s a network in Hell, and the reception seems to be excellent today.
This maddening desire to reveal secrets and become that which is often hidden grows stronger the longer a person remains in the maze of mirrors.
There are two ways someone can be brought back to their more normal selves: either by the acceptance and forgiveness from another person resulting in immediate relief, or by finally finding a way out. Although it may linger a few hours after exit until finally all returns to normal.
Something in the Air Tonight
Prompt I: Something In The Air WARNINGS: mentions of body horror transformations
After everyone's fun time spent in the mental asylum earlier in the month, it looks as though the monster business isn’t quite done and over with. Perhaps sinners missed taking care of a small scratch or maybe the taint has just spread some other way, but sinners (old and new alike) may find themselves beginning to change, physically.
It may start out simple enough. An ache or a pain that could be blamed on a long day of construction or sleeping on the lumpy, uncomfortable beds, but it will soon progress. Fingernails may fall out as fingers turn to claws, legs may start melting together until a sinner is left with something that looks decidedly snake-like. It may feel like one's body is attempting to tear itself apart only to leave them with slimy tentacles.
Eventually, affected sinners might start to even think differently. Whether their physical mutations are big or small, are specific to one animal or several, or are the variety of horrific unidentified monsters from someone’s worst nightmare, the affected may begin to lose their higher state of consciousness for something more primal and animalistic.
Don't worry, Lucifer will reassure you all that this is only a temporary state of being! They’re working on getting everyone back to normal as we speak, so in the meantime just… try to enjoy it. It’s not all that bad, is it?
Prompt II: They Did The Monster Smash (nsfw) WARNINGS: continued mentions of body horror
While under this transformation, some sinners may feel an innate desire for a night of debauchery. Whatever their monstrous state is, they find themselves wandering into the sex portion of the night club. While the mutations may be as small as claws and teeth, those experiencing it will also find themselves with an insatiable need to breed.
As the night goes on, people will find themselves more than just physically affected and begin displaying the following characteristics:
Alpha Traditionally strong and dominant types. They are protective and extremely jealous once they’ve found a mate.
It is not uncommon for Alpha’s to fight over their chosen Omega with other Alphas.
When next to an omega in heat, they may enter into a rut state where their main concern will be claiming and mating with their chosen partner.
Ruts will send alphas into an extreme frenzy and cause them to be very aggressive.
They will be overwhelmed with the desire to dominate and have sex.
When an Alpha is close to climax, their genitals will swell and knot or entrap their partner in order to further ensure breeding. This swelling locks two people together for up to thirty minutes. During this period, it is not possible to pull apart from one another and may result in several rounds of intercourse. Keep in mind, however, that the more sex you engage in the longer it will take for the swelling to ease.
Omega Traditionally submissive types who aim to please. They are physically inferior to alphas and have an innate urge to be claimed and possessed.
When in heat, omegas experience fevers that can be dangerous if allowed to rise. The only cure for this is an orgasm.
Heats may last up to three days. During this time period, omegas will be insatiable. So much so it might become painful the longer they don’t mate.
They will be drawn towards the strongest alpha. Omegas put off a scent that will attract mates, particularly during heat, that often encourages alphas to fight for the right to breed with them among other alphas.
Bites to the neck may calm a feisty omega, but keep in mind that this may also cause a mating bond with them.
Omega’s during heat often become extremely self-lubricated.
Both Alpha and Omega may experience intense lasting orgasms with excessive amounts of cum to further ensure breeding. If an Omega cannot find a suitable mate they will find themselves incapable of satiation. Nothing is enough until a mate is found and even then, heat might hit them again soon after climax.
There’s another category, the Beta. These are those who aren’t really affected either way. Some of these patrons are still experiencing physical mutations but don’t seem to have the same heat and desire to breed. Others might not even be physically changed at all.
This can make things a little bit awkward, though. Especially when even the succubi and incubi are affected along with other demonic staff and guests. They may be eagerly dragging people, staff and sinners alike, off for a rough breeding session.
Of course, because it’s a sex club there’s plenty of other things to do. As always, no guest is safe from the potential of being dragged on stage for a demo or two. There are plenty of rooms with various themes for your delight including all sorts of toys and fucking machines. Anything you could imagine, really!
More information on what to find in the sex club here.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The mods recognize that abo is considered a slur against aboriginal peoples in Australia. It is important to us that we recognize this and clarify that such a term outside of alpha/beta/omega context is harmful and uncool. Stay groovy, and have fun!
Wildcard Not looking for debauchery or looking for a different kind? That’s alright! The club itself has plenty of other options such as a separate side explicitly for dancing. Drink up, maybe do a few lines, and dance the night away. There’s also a spa, a pool, a library, and all sorts of other areas for your character to explore now that they’re in hell.
You can find more information on the various locations here

Her first thought is, well shit, she has no clue who Eudora is. Did Diego lose someone in the last few days and Vanya didn't know? She has no idea if that speaks to Diego's awful communication skills or her being a terrible sister. Probably both. Her second thought is to wonder aloud if Mom has a soul and if they'll ever see her again. That thought depresses her and will probably set off Diego, so that's out too.
But it's monumental that Diego even answered her question. She can't just let his answer hang there because she's afraid of saying the wrong thing. She has to try.
"I'm sorry," she says. It's awkward, and she wants to stop with every fiber of her being, but she plows on. It's easier when she focuses on Diego's heartbeat, faster than before but not agitated. "I miss Mom too."
As far as she knows, Mom was killed by the assassins who were after Five. She died alone after her children squabbled over whether or not they should kill her themselves. Vanya has doubts over their mother's independent thought, but she still loves her and knows her to be the only real source of affection she had growing up. The only source of affection many of them had.
"Do you... want to tell me what Eudora was like?"
no subject
"She's--" A quiet sigh. "She was," as though that makes it more real. "A cop. One of the good ones. Cared about people, you know, not the... sitting in a cop car handing out speeding tickets type."
Diego, for all the things he excels in, has never been particularly good at caring about people. He's always out for blood. He wants justice. Vengeance. Doesn't make for a good cop. Doesn't make for... much of a person, really. Maybe he was always destined for donning on his own version of a cape and cowl going around beating people up.
"She was gonna wait for me," he hears himself murmur. If anyone's waiting now, they'll be waiting a long time.
"Five really brought a steaming pile of shit back to us," Diego growls without malice. He's not pissed off at Number Five, but of course he wishes things had worked out differently.
no subject
"I'm sorry. She sounds like a good person."
Vanya means it, though she imagines her words are cold comfort. (A dark thought that sounds a lot like her younger self whispers, "He wouldn't mourn you like this if you died and he lived." She tries to shake it off, not entirely successfully.)
"Yeah, but I think he came home to a steaming pile, too." Vanya rests her ear near Diego's neck, listening to his heartbeat, breathing in the smell of leather. Anything to keep herself calm as her brain wanders to bad places. She has to be here in the present right now. "Do you think he's here? Do you think any of the rest of them are?"
Five didn't let Vanya in enough. She's still not sure what those years held for Five, whether he did anything to deserve hell besides being kind of a jerk to people. But Allison? Klaus? Luther? They've all done bad things, though a vindictive part of Vanya feels that Luther deserves hell worst of all. She tries to shake that thought off too.
no subject
"I think if anyone can cheat death it'll be Five." He can do anything at the literal last second to change something, go somewhere, hopefully not get himself trapped again. He doesn't know exactly how that all works, only that Five's a survivor.
He's not feeling so hopeful about the others. Allison and Klaus can't talk their way out of this one and, well. Diego has his own ugly thoughts about Luther, even if he keeps them to himself. Everyone knows they don't particularly get along very well.
When they get to the hotel lobby Diego ignores any of the weird looks they might get and just heads for the lift. He's got a thick enough hide to let that kind of thing just bounce off him. He stoops down a little to let her get the Up button and tries to catch a good, proper look at her in the elevator door.
"You look tired. Don't worry about them so much, yeah?" The two of them can figure something out.
no subject
People look at them strangely. A man in leather and a torn shirt carrying a woman in all white with bloody, mangled hands and knees. But this is hell, and the demons at least seem pretty unfazed.
But God, she looks ghastly in the mirror. Bloodless and weak with sunken eyes. She tries not to wince at her reflection as she presses the proper button with her knuckle.
"I'm good at worrying, though," she says in a weak attempt at humor. But would he really know that? She's not sure. She's not sure if she and Diego really know each other. But she spent many lonely day fretting over and envying her siblings in equal part when they went away, and it pressed on into their adult years, always wondering in the back of her head where Five was or when Klaus would overdose for good or Diego would finally be a hair too slow with his knives... but she never really showed it, she supposed. It was useless worry that sat in her gut and disturbed her sleep, not the kind that would actually cause her to check on people.
no subject
If he worries, he doesn't show it. He just showed up when Klaus needs a lift, because he doesn't want him giving weirdos blowjobs or whatever just to get halfway across town. It's not worry. He just checked in on mom because someone who doesn't think she's an animated, high functioning kitchen mixer has to. Can't call that worry.
No, he doesn't worry about anything at all. That's why the sibling he arguably feels the most ambivalent about is on his back right now riding some rickety old elevator with him that could plummet them to their deaths at any minute.
"If you're gonna worry then you might as well worry about what's in front of you." If any of these people in the hotel are a threat, for example, and where's the next meal coming from, if they even have to eat, and what these fucked up looking 'demons' have planned for the so-called guests.
He hurries out of the lift with almost a spring in his step when it lurches and groans to a halt on her floor, trusting her to direct him to her room. If she's getting restless he'll put her down when they get to her door. Otherwise he'll take her all the way to her bedside or her bathroom.
no subject
She pushes the door open with her uninjured hip, just to reveal an entrance covered in shards of at least two broken vases. Vanya grimaces. "Oh... I forgot about those. I should clean them up. Careful walking here." She picks her way to the bed, sitting on the edge and frowning at the broken pieces. She'd thrown them in a fit of pique when she first arrived and some hapless men interrupted her midway through a mental breakdown.
She holds up her hands, figuring that Diego will probably look at them again, but she's still frowning at the vase pieces.
"Uh... I'm going to try something, and I'm not sure how good I am yet, so heads up?"
When she's angry or using a lot of power at once, she's great at precise telekinesis. When she's calm and trying to only use a little power, she's not so great.
She focuses on Diego's heartbeat rather than her own. Wind picks up within the room, causing the lights to sway and flicker before a trash bin floats up, making its way next to the broken vases and settling down on the floor. It's not a flawless move. The bin rattles with energy, the lip threatening to fold like someone is holding it too tightly, but then she's trying to make the broken pieces float into the bin and it feels easier somehow to be moving many things at once than to only move one thing.

It's honestly pretty neat, this, but she hasn't spent years practising what it is she can do like the rest of them, and it shows. He's not going to stop her though, nor is he going to interfere with a broom or anything. Trust starts with knowing someone else has got this, giving them the freedom to do it their way. And trust might be hard to come by here but that's why they need it, with each other.
"That's pretty cool," is all he says when she's done so he doesn't break her focus, lacking mom's natural knack for encouragement and reassurance, but at least that flash of a smile is genuine even if it might look a little unnatural. It's hard to smile, given their current circumstances. It's also hard to watch and not think about how the world ended, how out of control not just her but everything else was, and he has to suppress those flashbacks that get his fingers twitching. Hopefully she won't hold it against him.
"Do you have a change of clothes or uh..." Yeah, he's not about to go through her stuff. He wouldn't let even any of the others go through his stuff, even if some of them might not respect that.
"I mean, maybe you wanna wash those out in the bathroom. Redo with proper bandages. There should be some around here." First aid kit in the hallway maybe, or there might be an onsite doctor or supply cabinet at least that he can raid.

Her heart settles again as he goes into more practical things. She furrows her brow at his question. "I... don't know? Did your room have a change of clothes?" She knows that her violin and her autobiography are here, but she hasn't the slightest if the drawers actually are full of her clothes. She didn't exactly pack a bag for hell.
But he also has a point that she should figure out her hands and rinse them off. She stands up on unsteady feet, hobbling to the bathroom and pushing the faucet on with her elbow.

"No, it didn't." He's pretty sure the people milling around here aren't just reusing the set of clothes they've arrived in though, especially since it looks like some of them have been here a while and have made themselves at home. He saw people in bathrobes and fluffy slippers walking down the corridor before he left the hotel - would have laughed, actually, if it wasn't for the fact that they're in hell and that's the weirdest fucking thing besides the demons and other non-human entities floating around.
He lets her take her time in the bathroom, gives her some privacy while he goes looking for the first aid kit. When he finds it he sets it down on the table and pops it open, shaking it a bit hoping to see rolls of bandages and a bottle of antiseptic rolling around. He'll wash his hands before digging in of course, but he waits for her to be done first.
"Maybe there's a robe?" he suggests when she emerges. "Some weirdos walking around outside in robes like it's an actual hotel."
